Activists have reported that blogger and activist Saida El Alami was arrested on Tuesday, with authorities yet to disclose the reasons behind her detention.
The arrest comes nearly a year after El Alami was granted a royal pardon on Throne Day, along with several other journalists and bloggers prosecuted in cases related to freedom of expression.
In September 2022, the Casablanca Court of Appeal sentenced her to three years in prison, following an earlier two-year sentence issued by the primary court.
Her prosecution stemmed from a Facebook post, which led to charges including «insulting a legally organized body», «insulting public officials while performing their duties», «undermining the respect due to their authority», «obstructing judicial decisions», and «spreading and distributing false information with the intent to defame».
