On Tuesday, police in Essaouira, working in coordination with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), foiled an attempt to traffic 3.03 tons of cannabis resin and arrested three individuals suspected of involvement in an international drug and psychotropic trafficking network.
The operation, carried out near the coastline in Sidi Ishaq, a small town and rural commune in Essaouira province, resulted in the seizure of 80 bales of hashish weighing a total of 3.03 tons, along with 29 plastic jerrycans containing 725 liters of fuel, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
Further investigations led to the arrest of three suspects found in possession of 120,000 dirhams, believed to be proceeds from the illegal activity. The individuals have been placed in custody pending further investigation.
