Azeddine Midaoui, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, has dismissed Abdelaziz Bendou from his position as President of Ibn Zohr University in Agadir, following a scandal involving the alleged sale of master’s degrees at the university’s Faculty of Law.

The dismissal came after several university officials, including the president, the dean of the Faculty of Law, and other staff members, were questioned in connection with the case.

Security authorities had earlier arrested a university professor suspected of enrolling numerous employees and lawyers in the master’s program in exchange for bribes, bypassing the official admission procedures.

Midaoui has appointed Abderrahmane Amsidder, acting director of the Higher School of Education and Training, as interim president and financial officer of the university, effective Wednesday, June 11, 2025, until a permanent replacement is named.
