Moroccan authorities at the port of Tangier prevented Polisario supporters from disembarking from a ferry arriving from Algeciras this Saturday, May 31. The ferry had departed around noon. These individuals, who were sent back to Spain, were participating in a stage of the «Caravan for the Liberation of Sahrawi Detainees», which began on March 30 in Ivry-sur-Seine, France, and was heading toward Kenitra prison.

The initiative is led by Claude Mangin, the wife of Naama Asfari, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his involvement in the deadly events during the dismantling of the Gdim Izik camp in Laayoune in November 2010, where 11 Moroccan security personnel were killed.

The «caravan» traveled through several cities in France and Spain, serving at each stop as a platform to promote the Polisario’s positions through meetings and gatherings.

Since the beginning of the year, Morocco has barred several Spanish nationals close to the Polisario from entering Laayoune and Dakhla.
