French MEP Marion Maréchal announced on Sunday, May 25, that she will file a complaint with the public prosecutor against Moroccan comedian Mustapha El Atrassi for incitement to hatred. The move comes after a viral video showed El Atrassi urging Moroccans and Algerians to insult the «gwers» during a performance.

In the clip, El Atrassi thanks Algerians for attending his shows and declares: «We’re together, we’re united, and I’m telling you for the last time—every moment we waste insulting each other as Moroccans and Algerians is a moment lost insulting the gwers».

«Make time for the gwers», he repeats, as an audience member walks out. «Did I upset the gwers? Don’t we feel better now?»

This is not the first legal issue for El Atrassi, who was previously sued by his former partner, TV presenter Anne-Élisabeth Lemoine, for assault and battery.
