As part of its campaign against Moroccan tomatoes, the Spanish Federation of Agricultural Associations (COAG) has denounced the presence of tomatoes in major supermarkets that originate from Western Sahara but are labeled as if they were produced in Morocco.
The organization announced it will meet in the coming days with European Union officials to inform them of the situation and demand the enforcement of the European Court of Justice’s ruling on the monitoring of labels for products from Western Sahara sold on Spanish soil.
COAG has repeatedly called for measures at the European level against what it describes as «unfair competition» from Moroccan tomatoes compared to their European counterparts.
Earlier this year, the organization also accused Moroccan tomato importers of evading 71 million euros in taxes over the past five years.
