Moroccan-Dutch writer Safae el Khannoussi has won the 2025 Libris Literature Prize for her debut novel Oroppa, a literary thriller about a missing artist, Dutch broadcaster NOS reported earlier this week.

The Libris jury praised Oroppa as a bold and rewarding read, saying they were «overwhelmed» by its quality. «This is fantastic, I didn’t expect it», El Khannoussi said during the award ceremony held Monday at Felix Meritis in Amsterdam.

Born in Morocco and raised in Amsterdam, El Khannoussi studied political philosophy and worked for the literary magazine De Gids. Hailed as one of the most promising Dutch-language writers of the moment, the 30-year-old previously won the Flemish De Boon Prize in March and was named Literary Talent of the Year by de Volkskrant in 2024.

The Libris Literature Prize is a prestigious annual award for the best original Dutch-language novel.
